I am Katja Vujić and to pronounce that, just pretend that “j” is “y”. An immigrant from former Yugoslavia who grew up in Nashville, TN, I feel most comfortable in the in-between space. I’m a writer and an editor and, more generally, a lover of storytelling primarily interested in stories that dig into the grey areas of life. I love learning about the complexities of people and places through my writing.
Currently, I am the Snapchat editor for the Cut at New York Magazine, where I’ve had the opportunity to familiarize myself with the unique sort of storytelling that takes place on social media. I haven’t quite found my niche and I’m not sure I want one; I love being able to pursue, through writing, everything that interests me. So far, that has included arts & entertainment, food, culture, travel, identity, social issues, and wellness. I’m especially obsessed with profiles—both writing them and reading them. The nosiness I was reprimanded for as a child has developed into the curiosity that makes me a great researcher and reporter.
In May 2018, I graduated from Emerson College in Boston with a BFA in Writing, Literature, & Publishing and two minors, in postcolonial studies and digital media & culture. While there, I was the editor in chief of Your Magazine, our only on-campus mag published monthly. My work has appeared in AD’s Clever, the Boston Globe, Vulture, the Cut, Here Magazine, Domino, the Improper Bostonian, The Bucket, and, of course, Your Mag. I continue to freelance and would love to explore collaborative possibilities with you. Let’s chat!
